The medical department of the soccer team ABC decided to innovate, and has been using technology to increase efficiency and speed of recovery of injured athletes. To reach this result, the sector therapy abecedista club 'adopted' the Nintendo Wii video game to help the treatment of players.
The so-called "Wiireabilitação" has been used by physiotherapists with defender Irineu, who is recovering from surgery on his left knee. For those unfamiliar, the Wii is a game where you use a wireless controller that captures the player's movements and play them on the game screen.
In the specific case of recovery is being used the Wii Fit, a balance called Wii Balance Board, capable of being able to calculate the body mass index of the player. The game features about 50 different activities divided into four categories: yoga, balance exercises, aerobics and exercise like crunches.
"It's an innovation we are bringing and giving a great result. Besides being close to reality, there is the question of the game that motivates the athlete always want to improve, and make him do the treatment without realizing it, playing. We are constantly monitoring and evaluating the positive and negative influence on the rehabilitation of the game and this has been very helpful, "said the physiotherapist Ronnie Peterson.

Rio is home to International Course Fisiogames and Wii Rehabilitation
Orginal here: www.saudee.com.br/2010/08/rio-e-sede-de-curso-internacional-de-wii-rehabilitation/
Dr. Vanderlinde Fernando dos Santos
Rio de Janeiro is being established at this weekend's international travel Wii Rehabilitation.Developed and taught by professor Dr. Vanderlinde, Brazil's representative for Games4Rehab. The classes are geared for professional physical therapy and physical educators who want to update the market increasingly competitive.
International course is being conducted at Physio Studio in Botafogo, South Zone of Rio Wii Rehabilitation Method is designed to treat physical injuries, neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, attention deficit, concentration difficulty reaching an audience of all ages .
Physiotherapist, member of the International Socity Virtual Rehabilitation, part of the project Physio-Fisiogames Fan, part of Wii Rehabilitation Project of Santa Catarina, games consultant for Health and Rehabilitation, Fernando Vanderline is in Rio de Janeiro to teach especially international travel.
The method Wii reached Brazil in 2007 and is still considered an innovation in respiratory therapy. According to Dr. Fernando, the Wii can be considered both a treatment where one training.
"It has been used by athletes and also in training academies. A person can come in search of a session of physiotherapy or orthotics and finds an innovative training and efficacy and this reduces by 60% waiver from attending classes. The Nintendo i actually shows the movement that the practitioner is doing by increasing the patient's body awareness, besides being great fun for those using the method, "says Fernando.
So important for motor skills, various training and the concentration used in the Wii game Rehabilitation has been used by the Army as North American driving simulator planes, tanks and use of firearms by soldiers before going into the field.
Children and Elderly
According to Fernando Vanderlinde, Wii Rehabilitation is also important as a factor in emotional and social improvement of patients.
"The person perceives the improvement and that is exciting. The Wii also makes clear the increase in concentration because the person who practices need to focus to make the moves.Children love it because they interact with it. Elderly love because they are being encouraged to interact with new technologies. "
Children respond well to attention deficit are well stimulated treinndo concentration. They love to be a game, they identify more and participate more. The important thing is to alert the parent that is a serious treatment, not a joke and child to enjoy coming to pass.
The Wii game for Rehabilitation has also been used successfully with people suffering from cancer. "People may not want to get out of bed or move, or who feel pain just distracted because this treatment can be seen in movements that alone can not accomplish. They leave happy session. The motivation helps to overcome the challenges. Adults also like to use the game. Geriatrics is the flagship., "Says Fernando.
He added that geriatric clinics are using the game to stimulate movement and joy to the elderly. The simulator can be combined with skiing, bowling, dance, and walk straight. The American Heart Association also endorsed the use of the Wii as an aid in treating cardiorespiratory.
Reduction of avoidance
To say that something has current and dynamic in clinics, especially with the Wii Rehabilitation attracts new customers and help keep patients already on the studio. Studies with physiotherapists who have the game claimed that there was a fall of 60% in the avoidance of patients.
Academies, for example, you can train with 30 people at a time, not in the same game, but interactively. And it is this interaction that acts as a motivating factor for the treatment or training.
"We're talking about a machine, but is a device that humanizes more training. It is important that the therapist knows how to work the play and that is linked to new technology that provides for their work, "he warns.
The professional must be in touch with news of the market. Must always be well informed to provide the best. The cost is less than that of an apparatus of any academy. Undoubtedly, the cost-benefit is worthwhile, concludes Dr. Fernando.
For those who like to work with burn injuries.
The Utility of a Video Game System in Rehabilitation of Burn and Nonburn Patients: A Survey Among Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Practitioners.
Fung V, So K, Park E, Ho A, Shaffer J, Chan E, Gomez M.
From the St John's Rehab Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The objective of this study was to investigate perceptions of occupational therapists and physiotherapists on the use of Nintendo Wii in rehabilitation. Occupational therapists and physiotherapists in a rehabilitation hospital trialed four Wii games that addressed physical movement, balance, coordination, and cognitive performance. Then, they completed an opinion survey on the utility of Wii in rehabilitation. The results were compared between burn care therapists (BTs) and nonburn care therapists, using chi with a P < .05 considered significant. The participation rate was 79% (63/80), and they agreed that Wii was easy to set up (71%), operate (68%), and safe to use (76%). Participants agreed that Wii would be beneficial in outpatient (76%) and inpatient (65%) settings and that it could improve treatment compliance (73%). Participants recommended 15 to 30-minute Wii intervention (59%) daily (81%) and twice per week (43%). Participants believed that neurologic (71%), trauma (68%), burn (59%), and musculoskeletal (49%) patients would benefit from Wii intervention but not cardiac (43%) or organ transplant patients (18%). Participants believed that outcomes using Wii could be measured reliably (49%), and skills learned while playing could be transferable to daily function (60%). The significant differences between BTs and nonburn care therapists' perceptions are that BT-treated younger patients (21-40 years vs >60 years, P < .05) and BT favored the therapeutic benefit of Wii in rehabilitation (93% vs 58%, P = .02), specifically in burn rehabilitation (85% vs 39%, P = .001). Occupational therapists and physiotherapists favored the use of Wii in rehabilitation as an adjunct to traditional therapy because it is therapeutic, engaging, and may increase patient participation in rehabilitation.

Wii game combines fun and health
Games can help even in physiotherapy treatments
Parents have one less reason to worry about the health of their children. Those who are against video games because they think they sedentary children still do not know the Wii console from Nintendo, released in 2006. The Wii gets its name by referring to the British term "we", which in Portuguese means 'we' - stands out for having wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which detects body movements of the player.
Anyone looking at someone playing the Wii without knowing the functioning of the videogame, you may think that the person is crazy. In front of the TV, with a rectangular white control in the hands, the player is forced to move constantly. Connected to the console via Bluetooth, the Wii Remote has a sensor bar, which captures the movements performed by the "player" and transmits them to the game, which reproduces the actions.
Thus it is possible that someone boxing fight, drive a car or play tennis and bowling in the virtual world, but being forced to move as in sports - with a little less effort, of course. This is the differential of the console from Nintendo that has revolutionized the way of playing video game.
Unlike traditional games - leaving the children standing in front of the TV, moving, at best, hands - the Wii requires players to simulate the same movements that the character of the game, stimulating and developing motor coordination of whom play .
For this reason, more than mere entertainment, the video game is also used as an aid in the treatment of various diseases.
- The Wii is very comprehensive Can be used in both orthopedic problems such as neurological. The video game is a tool that contributes to the recovery of patients, ranging from toddlers to seniors - said the physiotherapist Vanderlinde Fernando dos Santos, who works at FisioGames, a company that since 2009 develops games for physiotherapy.
Besides stimulating movements - thus improving flexibility, coordination, balance and strength - the Wii, as a way of fun just making the treatment more pleasant. Another advantage of the console is that it gives feedback to the patient, who can see the reproduction of their actions on the screen and thus, correct and refine their movements. It is worth remembering, though according to Fernando Vanderlinde, which the Wii does not replace conventional physical therapy:
- The video game is an auxiliary tool. Besides traditional exercise sessions, the patient complements treatment with exercises for the Wii.
The sessions - which vary according to each patient, but generally last about 15-20 minutes - are also a way to unwind. The game is contraindicated in persons who have epilepsy, given the rapid variation of colors in the games. Concerns with physical inactivity and the health of children the parents no longer have ...

Unfortunately we still have people who dont believe in games for rehab.
That why we start to show, and teach PTs, here in Brazil how to do it.
